In 2 weeks it will be the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Unbelievable! Here is a poem I wrote about remembering 9/11 and coming through the pandemic:
.
Touching From a Distance
8/2/21

They took you from me
In the early morning,
The sun rising blood red
Dust was on the ground.
.
It ripped you out of life
Like the Mayan’s did
A virgin’s heart, for sacrifice,
Then tossed you into the pit, forgotten.
.
Your image rises
Like that morning’s smoke.
Your face never forgotten.
For 20 years your screams fill my mind.
.
Last year we social distanced
Never touching the ones we love.
I haven’t touched you
Since the Towers fell.
.
The pandemic is over
Or so they say
But down the distance of time
I will always be touching your soul.

Pray for Haiti

I’d like to share this poem of sadness that I wrote in 2010 after the devastating earthquake hit Haiti. Please pray for all the people of Haiti, impacted by the current massive earthquake, who lost loved ones and for those whose loved ones are still missing.

A Valentine for Devastated Hearts
2/04/10

In the darkness a voice is crying
Blood spattered at her knees.
Her child’s last breath taken
As from the rubble she was freed.
.
We send you water
We send you bread
We send you our love so that your soul will be fed.
.
On a road that leads to nowhere
Young and old walk in fear.
All around are piled the bodies
Of those they held dear.
.
We send you water
We send you bread
We send you our love so that your soul will be fed.
.
The innocent children are crying
Orphaned, lost, alone
Wandering the streets of devastation
Who will give them a home?

Bread and water sustains the body
Can’t help you put the pain behind.
Only love can do the healing
Because love is patient, lasting and kind.

I’ve been following the news on Coumo and am so saddened that he has turned out to be such a creep. Watched him all during the pandemic and now to find out he harassed women and continues to deny it. So here is my poem about him:

Fallen Angel

You were our pandemic savior.
We turned to you for comfort,
For facts and advice.
You didn’t fail us
Until your dark underbelly
Was exposed.

Look at you now:
Your hallo tarnished,
Your name disgraced,
Your sins written
On the media walls.

Oh worshiper of facts
It is now the facts
That have ensnared you
In a web of deceit
Of your own making.
How the mighty fall!

From “Savior” to “Fallen Angel”
Your victims had their say.
They were the tipping point
That will toss you
Out of the phony heaven
You created.
Should we punish you
Or forgive you
For your transgressions?

Even now
When all the facts
Float in front of your eyes,
You use your silver tongue
To paint denial.
Your victims can’t forgive
Neither can I.
You shattered the only good memory
I had of that dark pandemic time.

I believed in you;
In your goodness and compassion.
Were those 111 days
Of your words
All lies?

You betrayed us,
We who placed our trust in you,
As much as the women
You sexually harassed.
It saddens me to know
That the image you project
Is a gilded fake
That cares only for himself.
